I read two books recently that you might like. I definitely did.
The first one is called The Compound by S. A. Bodeen. Basically, there has been a nuclear war on Earth, and 15 year old Eli has moved into an underground compound with his family to avoid the fallout. The shelter was built to last fifteen years, but after six years the family starts running out of food and supplies. Eli's dad offers up a solution, but it's pretty disgusting. Eli starts to question his father, and he finds out that things are not exactly what he thought they are. It was pretty creepy and a little predictable, but it was a very quick read.
The second, The Other Side of the Island by Allegra Goodman, was fantastic. Honor is 10, and she lives in the future. It's basically a dystopia, which is a society that has a lot of misery, despair, disease, and oppression. Life has changed a lot in the United States, and all aspects of life are ruled by the Corporation. Everything from how to name your child to the weather are controlled by the government. Honor's parents don't always follow the rules, and Honor is really disturbed by this. When her parents are finally punished for their behavior, Honor has to step in and decide what's really right. This one was a little harder to follow, but if you stick with it I think you'll enjoy it.
I bought them both for the classroom. Let me know if you're interested. And after you read one of these, come back and let us know what you thought!
