Is it really Grammar Time, like MC Hammer says?

Ok, so I know he says it's Hammer Time, not Grammar Time, and really only one time at that, but I get such a kick out of thinking of MC Hammer wearing his big Hammer pants and dancing around singing "Grammar Time." (You youngsters can check him out on YouTube -- but don't say I didn't warn you about the pants. And the sad thing is that he was SO COOL in the 80s.) On a side note, MC Hammer is now broke because he squandered all of his money -- all 33 million dollars of it. Lesson learned -- you don't need a 40 person posse (unless that posse includes yours truly), and you should SAVE YOUR MONEY! Now MC Hammer is in a few commercials, and he's pitching ideas to star in... you guessed it... a reality show! Big surprise.

I digress. Today I really started thinking about grammar and how much of it you should or shouldn't learn in middle school. So what do you think? Is grammar crucial? Or has it gone the way of the Hammer pants? Tell me what you think!
