So I've had The Host by Stephanie Meyer laying around my classroom forever. A few of you have already even read it. I wasn't really sure what I was waiting for. I loved the entire Twilight series, so it wasn't that that. Not sure. Anyway, I took it home and read it over break.
The story is about a girl named Melanie who isn't really herself anymore. It's set in the future, and an alien species has taken over our planet, as well as a bunch of other planets. Basically these "souls" are parasites, and they settle themselves into a host body. They then live out the life of that host. This host body is a bit different in that the original brain doesn't really ever give itself over to the new soul.
It's a really really long book. Longer even than Twilight. I found it really hard to get into at first, and if I was one of those people who was willing to give up a book after the first chapter, I would've done did it. But I'm not. And for that I am oh so grateful because I really liked this book. It's way more science fictiony than her others, but I still really enjoyed it. I even got a little misty at the end because I wasn't sure I wanted it to end.
If you liked Twilight you should read it just so you can say you read it. I definitely think boys might enjoy this book as well, although there is a bit of romance going on.
